Small publishers are growing and getting more power - that's why I like them.

As far as the Kindle, it is a great idea, and one that I'd forgotten about. Funny, because my book is available via Kindle. I guess I'm still an old-fashioned, paper kind of girl and don't always think in terms of tech-nol-ogy.

Great info!Kristina Schramhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16247127901119453576noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1039885951389247897.post-73128767117992264442009-06-22T12:34:57.877-04:002009-06-22T12:34:57.877-04:00Kristina-

There are more options than you've listed and some that are important, I think.
1.)some small pubs are gaining the ability (mullah) to be able to do print runs and some distribution into bookstores. It's not as easy for them as Big Pubs and bookstore real estate (ie. front of the store displays) is costly, but still there are some getting their products into stores...at the very least, the independent book stores who are more likely to work with small pubs.
2.)There is the electronic book option and even better, the new AMAZON KINDLE option. Think of it this way: free, easy publishing or your novel on the world's largest bookseller, complete with it's own bookpage and the ability to have reviews posted to it and as much access to amazon's listing tools (listmania, so you'd like to...) as the big boys. These options alone helped Jeremy Robinson sail into a large fanbase with his first self published novel, "The Didymus Contingency."

This particular KINDLE option is picking up steam as the bestsellers are on Kindle, so the gap between your novel and theirs grows smaller and much less noticeable...same format, etc and with KINDLE'S audio reading capability your novel can become an instant audiobook...all of this essentially free of charge to you. You don't have to purchase stacks of paperbacks to sell from your trunk just to sell your novel.
Personally, I've done KINDLE with all of my novels, even the ones in paperback format and with a low price, people take a chance.
So as technology closes the gap, somewhat, you might not get rich, but you can still reach readers and hopefully have them enjoy your work...that, I'm finding more and more, is the real reward of writing. :)James Somershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08944619796890820032noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1039885951389247897.post-17670207302622215402009-05-22T12:59:46.129-04:002009-05-22T12:59:46.129-04:00Kristina--Words of wisdom here...I hate the agenti...Kristina--Words of wisdom here...I hate the agenting process! I've tried multiple approaches and found the same form rejections you describe here. I ended up with an agent by contact with another author who gave me a referral to his agent...he liked what he read and took me on. Even with that, it's still tough selling a manuscript. Mine fits into the Christian fantasy market which is small enough to begin with...so waiting, waiting, waiting is the name of the game. Leaves lots of time to write though :DJames Somershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08944619796890820032noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1039885951389247897.post-39083847892019970402009-05-17T09:37:00.000-04:002009-05-17T09:37:00.000-04:00Book 2 in the Denthan series - THE SECOND GATEWAY...Book 2 in the Denthan series - THE SECOND GATEWAY by Sam Wilding is now available at amazon etc or throughyour libraries.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1039885951389247897.post-38938728941885573862009-04-07T18:40:00.000-04:002009-04-07T18:40:00.000-04:00Hi Kristina, I just read this post and I loved it....Hi Kristina, I just read this post and I loved it. I think that Emma Thompson’s version was closing to perfection. I did not like Keira’s version of Elizabeth Bennet at all. I also belong to the minority who thinks that Gwyneth was casted very well as Emma, she was fresh, strong headed, but elegant. And though Jeremy Northam’s Mr Knightly was in places too soft, but he demonstrated very well why Emma has claimed that his presence was always cheerful. Cheerful Michael Strong was definitely not!Alina Gordellihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03282746194526066077noreply@blogger.com
